Forty Year Old League Football Record Falls
An FML individual football record that had stood for forty years was broken when Lapeer East visited Lapeer West in their annual rivalry game. Lapeer East quarterback Ryan Springsteen rushed 27 times for 210 yards, breaking the Flint Metro League record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a single game. That record had been held by Lapeer's Brad Gerlach, who rushed for 168 yards (also in 27 attempts) on November 1, 1968, in a game that clinched the Metro's first football championship for Lapeer.
Ironically, Gerlach was in attendance at the East/West game as part of a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Metro League's first football championship.
FML team and individual records for football, and many other sports, can be found on the 'History' page of this website, located in the drop-down menu under 'Championships' at the top of this page.
