Six Winter Sports Won By Six Different Schools
The Flint Metro League showed its competitive balance this winter season when six different schools won the six league championships sponsored by the league.
Brandon's competitive cheer team finished a mere 21 points (one percentage point) ahead of defending champion Lapeer West to claim the 2008 cheer crown, the last event of a full winter league season. Swartz Creek defended its hockey title in a race that came down to the last day's games. Holly combined a perfect 4-0 dual meet season with a league meet victory to win the boys' swim/dive championship for the fourth consecutive year. Oxford took the league wrestling trophy over tough competition that included four district champions (Oxford, Clio, Linden and Holly)...with another district champ, Kearsley, joining the league next year. The schools with the most basketball league titles, Fenton's girls and Lapeer East's boys, won again this year.
Now in its fortieth year of fair play and sportsmanship, the Flint Metro League continues to provide strong and balanced competition for its member schools!
