FML Golf and Tennis Teams Fare Well at MHSAA Regionals

Two boys' tennis teams and three girls' golf teams from the Flint Metro League, as well as an individual player from each sport, qualified for the MHSAA state finals at regional events held October 8th.

Lapeer West's girls' golf team won their Division 2 regional match at the Flint Elks Club, with Swartz Creek finishing second to also qualify for the state meet as a team. Kearsley finished two shots out of third place to barely miss qualifying. Lapeer East's Keely Turczyn shot an 87 to qualify for the state meet as an individual player.

Linden finished third in its Division 3 regional, giving the FML its third team to qualify for states in girls' golf this year.

Holly, the FML boys' tennis champion, finished a close second at its Divison 2 regional to qualify for the state championship tournament, along with FML runner-up Brandon which finished third in the region with a qualifying 19 points. Fenton's John Burke won the number one singles flight to qualify as an individual player for the MHSAA championships. Burke defeated Brandon's Spencer Navarre 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the championship match.
